Smoke Reaches Western Washington

The fume is dorsum over western Washington too it is almost to larn worse, every bit California wildfire fume pushes northward over our area.

This morning's sunrise clearly showed a fume layer, amongst the reddish glow too thence familiar from concluding summer's sunrises too sunsets.

The persuasion of the mountains from Seattle's SpaceNeedle Panocam shows a progressive loss of visibility over the past times vi days from July 25th to yesterday (all at 5:10 PM).

Most of the of fume has non been local, but rather came from huge fires over Siberia!   Here is a satellite icon from 5 days ago, showing the fume moving southwards towards us.  Perhaps Trump tin privy beak to Putin almost it.

In a like icon yesterday afternoon, yous tin privy only brand out the Siberian fume (particularly due north of us), if yous await carefully.  There is besides 1 burn downward inwards eastern Washington (Chelan Hills) too a few inwards southwestern B.C. that are contributing a flake every bit well.  You come across all the fume inwards California, specially from the Redding fire?  That is coming our way.

Last nights run of the NOAA HRRR-smoke forecasting organization predicted that a pregnant slug of California fume volition before long attain us.  Here are the fume forecasts for seven AM too 5 PM today--substantial fume is moving northward--particularly bad inwards Oregon, where sunsets volition move really red.

The latest (6:45 AM) visible satellite photograph shows the "smoke front" clearly (I set an arrow inwards to exhibit the leading edge).   Something to await forwards to.  Smoke volition move worse over eastern WA than over the West.

Want some expert news?  The fume may knock a aeroplane or 2 off the high temperatures.

Talking almost temperatures, yesterday was a really warm day, getting into the lower 90s from Puget Sound southward too into the 100s inwards eastern WA.   But perchance the most odd facial expression were the temperatures inwards the mountains, where some overstep locations got into the upper 80sF too higher (see below, click to expand).  Stampede Pass at 4000 ft maxed out at 88F too mid-90s reached the eastern slopes of the Cascades.  We had really warm air aloft, that around tied long-term tape values.

Today volition move smoky too warm away from the coast, but tomorrow nosotros volition commencement transitioning to cooler, onshore flow.   Relief is alone 24 hr away.

Update at iii PM.  Here is the MODIS visible icon about noon...the fume moving through Washington State is obvious.

And the solar radiations is clearly existence reduced based on measurements hither at the UW....will cool us downward past times 1-4F I suspect...
